How to Book Dorothy Potter
Dorothy Potter is available as a solo act, duo, trio or quartet. The range of private and public events I've played is wide, from house concerts, cafés, festivals and large halls to prisons, and schools and campfires.
It makes it SO much easier for me to say "yes" to your date quickly if you provide as much information as you can up front! Complete info makes the gig run smoother and cuts down on telephone chatter. Fees and other details are all negotiable. Just tell me as much as you can and send to me at the email on the contact page.
Here's what I need to know...
1. THE DATE AND TIME: load-in, sound check and hit times.
2. THE LOCATION: The exact address of the gig, including accessibility to public transportation, availability of parking, and whether your venue is disabled accessible or not.
3. THE FEE: What budget (if any) do you have available for a musician's fee and in what form is it paid (check, cash, carrots)? Is the musician's fee from a cover charge? How much is your normal cover charge, and what's your average audience on that night of the week? I play gigs with no guaranteed fee if it is near where I live and/or there is another compelling reason to do it. (Like having fun!)
4. TIPS: Tips can add significantly to a performers bottom line. Do you allow a stationary bucket, or can I have someone pass the hat during my show? Or do you not allow tips?
5. CD and MERCH SALES: I like to sell my CDs at my shows. Tell me how you normally do this.
6. SOUND: What backline is available if any and is there a PA and/or sound engineer in-house? Are there boom mic stands, guitar stands, a board (what model), speakers, monitors? Do you take a floor plan for sound? OR do you want a completely acoustic, unplugged show?
7. PROMOTION: Do you want some posters and will you display them? Will you post my photo and link on your web site? Do you require a press release, bio or Hi-Res photos for promotional purposes?
8. CANCELLATION POLICY: Mine as a solo act is a month in advance, and six weeks minimum if it is a band show.
9. OVERNIGHT LODGING: If the gig is out of town, are you offering overnight lodging? Hotel, or someone's home?
10. OTHER: Do you offer food and/or beverages to artists? Do you need a confirming email or fax just before the show? Is there anything weird or special about your venue that I need to know?
Also nice to know is...
11. YOUR BOOKING POLICY: If you like the show, can I book multiples for the future? Do you book in the summer? Generally how far ahead do you book? If you're a venue far from New York, can you help me book another gig in your area?
